My brother Douglas Canfield and I are dedicated submarine entrepreneurs. My name is Russell. Since 1983, we have designed, built, and periodically operated semi-dry and dry submarines for personal use. Our new fugusub submarine is a hybrid of our past designs, combining the best features of each with our newest innovations. This semi-dry submarine is ideal for pursuing the goals of Fugusub, LLC., and more.
We named our fugusubs after fugu fish, which is a Japanese word for puffer fish. Our thrusters act much as their pectoral fins do in an equivalent location, making them highly manoeuvreable machines. Additionally, fugusubs can be inflated internally with air, as all species of puffer fish are known to do.
Three fugusubs have been built so far for the opening phases of our business. They will be used to promote our submarines through magazines, television programming, commercials, news and possibly movies. This should serve to create brand name recognition for fugusub. In this global economy, we plan to sell exclusive manufacturing rights for fugusubs and to establish a working fleet of them in ecotourism.
An important factor that led us to our focus on the development of the one person design was our experience with two person designs. We found through experience that scuba divers are typically action oriented people who are not content to be a passenger sitting in the back seat. They want to pilot them. The proven buddy system of scuba diving is preserved by flying fugusubs together, connected both visually and with underwater communications.
In September of 2005, we formed FUGUSUB, L.L.C. It's primary goal is to build a fleet of fugusubs for use in eco-tourism. We seek partners for developing this fleet in clear water destinations all over the world.
A fugusub working in eco-tourism can yield many times the profit of a one-time sale.
We are seriously looking at the creation of a new fugusub adventure reality television series (THE FUGUFILES) based on submarine exploration into waters known, and unknown, across the U.S., and possibly beyond. Additionally, fugusubs are available for use in film and television projects.
On a professional level, we would like to see fugusubs lead and develop the broad frontiers of ecotourism, making ties to education as they do so. This is a green/blue industry that will continue to grow. On a personal level, we would like good careers to develop, wherever they are put into use. We would like the eco-tourism use of fugusubs to serve as good reason to preserve the aquatic environments they operate in. We want people to enjoy themselves and appreciate some of the true natural splendor left to us.
